Perfect Showings: Impossible With Children in the Home?

When selling your home, having the property look its best is the most important thing on people's minds. Trying to get that done when you have small children can be hard in the first place, let alone to maintain it in that condition the entire time your house is waiting for a buyer. There are a few simple things that can be done to maintain your house shape even with the kids living a normal life.

Organization is Key
Children like to collect toys of all types. They like variety. "Mine!" is often an expression learned early. As a parent you have likely gotten accustomed to the sight of clutter, but a person who is not so conditioned can all too easily be put off by that. The first step is to organize your children's belongings so they can easily be put away and mostly out of sight. This may involve getting things such as toy chests, bookshelves, or large storage boxes. Get storage that can fit into the space without being too obvious.

Naturally the outside neatness is important as well. Try finding ways to store or arrange the children's outdoor playthings and other toys in a neat and tidy way to present the outside of your house as attractively as you can.

Of course, the process of freeing yourself from belongings that are no longer needed on a regular basis such as donating to a worthwhile cause, or having a tag sale, is just as pertinent to the kids' belongings as it is to all the other family treasures. This is a good thing to learn whether you are moving. Choices have to be made. Handling how to let things go and moving on is a vital part of growing up and becoming mature. That can be a learning opportunity for the children, though it will be important to get their participation and not force their decisions. That would only get in the way of the lesson.

Even if you cannot bring yourself to get rid of a thing, though, you can accomplish quite a lot of good if you start using smart storage. Besides, keep in mind that anyone considering a home where a family is raising young children will generally be looking for a family oriented home themselves and will be evaluating aspects that are good for children. Demonstrating that the children's rooms can accommodate all of the children's toys and games up out of the way can be a great demonstration of that feature of your home.

Some discipline will be needed to maintain everything in order, once you get it looking good. The job of keeping your home well organized and clean once it is all fixed up can be difficult, but it is not out of reach. Once you have appropriate storage, keeping things in order will be lots easier. Take steps to limit the number of different things your children are playing with while you are in the process of selling your home. You can even make the ongoing challenge of keeping the house cleaned up into a game, or adventure for your children. They might even help motivate you to keep your own things put away as an additional benefit.

You wouldn't want to turn your home into a sterile and overly regimented house where it looks like no children would be allowed. That would not be good either for you or for the children. Many people in the market for a family home are happy to see that a house is lived in, and a few toys being in use is pretty normal. Just be aware that it should be kept a little on the high side of normal.

If you have children who are really all over the place with toys it might be a good idea to buy an extra rug for them to play on that can be put away when potential buyers come. Keeping the young artists' paints and other messy project supplies put away might be a good plan too.

In summary, it's not so much of a task, is it, to allow the kids to continue with their normal and healthy play while offering your home and keeping it in the appealing condition in which it needs to be. A little patience and a little persistence, along with a little daily attention to clutter, will make the sale of your home when you have small children in the picture easy to manage.
